Hey, Could anyone who knows about computers tell me which is the better laptop - a Sony Vaio or something by Apple? I didn't have a specific Mac laptop in mind, so the best one vs. the Sony Vaio, which wins? If you could also explain why you think/what about it you think is better, I'd really appreciate finding that out.

What about Windows is bad? And how do I find out what Apple (Mac) uses? Thanks.

So, Apples (Macs) are the best if you're not good with computers and don't know how/what to do to keep Windows running up to par? I'm already on my 3rd computer, and this time I wanted to get help picking a lap top from people who know something about computers because I end up having problems. I've had a Hewlett Packard, a Dell, and now I have an HP Pavilion desktop w/LCD monitor. I'm already having troubles with this computer, but I'm going to hold out a little longer before purchasing a laptop, but again, I want something that's quality, easy to use, and that I will actually be able to use (meaning that I can find programs to run on it). So, thanks a lot for all the responses so far. I really do appreciate it.

Windows is notorious for being vulnerable to viruses, spyware, adware, trojan horses, hacking, and even registry problems from within the OS itself. Essentially, if you aren't a computer guru with enough knowhow to keep on top of all of Windows' problems, there's no reason you should have to subject yourself to it. Mac OS X, as ridiculous as this may sound, has none of these problems. On the merits of OS X alone (Linux is also more secure than Windows — heck, just about everything is — but it often requires even more technical expertise), I'd recommend that you get a Mac.

I agree that Mac software isn't nearly as prevalent in brick-and-mortar computer stores as Windows software, but that's where the Internet shines as an extremely handy resource. :) There's a bit of a learning curve involved in switching from Windows to Mac, but it's well worth it and there are resources to help you.

Why do you want to buy sony vaio??If u are not concerned with the price go with sony...If u are interested in windows and want to get the best for cheap go with dell....If u are not interested in windows and if u like LINUX operating system, then go with a MAC Book....You can have both windows and linux on a mac book but u have to purchase the required edition of windows and if u are a student and if u use office a lot then you have to buy office for mac and student edition costs about 150$ ..Think about the features u need...Low cost,Less weight, Great look, great performance, screen size etc., Go to sony.com and Apple.com to find out for yourself. It's better if u go to the website and discuss all ur doubts with an expert in a chat....they answer really well especially in the apple site....You will have to think about what u need Deciding b/w two names with out any other details is not advisable........

It's according to software really. Apple software is a bit hard to get. Can't exactly go to walmart and buy something for it. The vaio (according to which model) can have a sub-woofer, wide screen, ect that can be service by any local computer store, apple, you're lucky if there is just one in the area that can work on it. And windows XP is fairly solid OS. Many experience no crashes at all, according to what you try running on it....

Okay, I just happen to know a little bit about all of this. Two years ago, I switched over to Mac. It's the best decision I've ever made. In all honesty, my Apple notebook, the MacBook Pro, would blow any Sony Vaio right out of the water. This thing has it all. It's an extremely fast system, with great hardware features, security and a sleek design. What's bad about Windows? It's junk. With a Mac, you'll never have to worry about viruses again. There's a lot of great reasons to own a Mac. Don't listen to these PC fanboys, they don't know anything about Mac. I was a PC users for ten years, I know what I want in a computer, and Mac has it all. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message. I'll tell you anything you want to know about a Mac.

Each notebook has its own perks and drawbacks. The Apple lacks software compatibility, about 85% of all applications made are for other systems. Apple systems are generally not as easy to upgrade. Apple benefits from industry leading reliability and support for its proprietary software and systems. Their notebooks seem to get the best battery life bar none. They seem to attract people in media related occupations. Ease of use, and user friendliness are what sets these machines apart.
Viao notebooks generally are more expensive than equivilent machines from other companies by at least 10%. This is due to the somewhat smaller sizes, lighter weights of units, and much better styling. Noted as media powerhouses, they are packaged with full suites of applications ready to go out of the box. Tailored more to the 'eye candy savvy' and corporate elite who like to travel light without sacrificing power. Consumer reports has them in the top 5 of technical support effectiveness and hardware reliability, with Apple being #1. Apples secret should be noted for the fact that they create every piece of hardware in every system and each line of code for their operating systems and software leading to no conflicts in compatibility.

What ever you get make sure it uses the Core2Duo processor.
The mac will run MacOS,plus,Windows too so it would be more versatile..like two computers for one price-you decide.
