You might want to go with a rubber mask they are really cool to do. You will get a better grade most likely over other materials. Get someone to help you and make it with Plaster of Paris, and then a rubber compound like they are made in the movies.

The way I make masks is with molded leather.
Go to Tandy Leather's web site:
www.tandyleather.com
Find a store near you.
Use 5-7 ounce vegetable tanned leather (like the kind for a belt or wallet, instead of "garment" leather) Completely wet it, and mold it, either to someones face, a form, or a store bought mask.
You can paint it with "COVA" colors, from Tandy's, and finish with either "SUPER SHEEN" or "SATIN SHEEN" (depending on if you want a glossy or matte finish) to seal it.
You can also order everything you need from their web site.

Papier Mache is always a great idea, Fun to make and looks effective.
I usually put some cling film on someones face, then mix PVA glue with water, then tear up newspaper.
Basically then just dip the newspaper in the glue then place on the clingfilm.
Best thing about this is, it dries hard and clear, You can paint on it and its customised to your face shape.
