My dell optiplex has two usb ports in front which is good since that way I don't have to reach around to the back to insert a usb drive (it's hard because I have carpal tunnel). My 'ergonomic' keyboard has two plugs--one for the keys, the other for the touch pad. I plugged them into a two to one adapter so I would only have to use one of the ports in front, but only the keyboard works; the mouse pad won't work. So now I have to use both ports just for the keyboard. Now I still have to squeeze behind the computer to get the removable drive in. I finally saved up money for an expensive (for me, anyway) computer and I thought at least I'd get some higher end features. Any ideas? The adapter came without software and said you didn't need any.

Well my friend, first of all you need to see what are the power requirements for your keyboard and the touchpad. Some peripherals require 2.0 usb ports, so if you use a two to one adapter you are sharing the power from that usb port into the 2 peripherals, so I suggest you to get a usb hub with external power supply. These hubs get extra power for every port, so they can supply enough to your devices.

Hope this helps. Regards.
