We have had our dwarf hamster for about 2 years and we've noticed that one of its eyes have turned red, he seems to be staggering around quite a bit and looks off balance, think he could be going blind due to age but not sure, any suggestions..??

Males will smell more. Many people say males will fight.. but in general, female hamsters are more territorial than males are! Hence why with syrians, thye usually put the female in the male's cage to breed. I'd still go female.. but that's really just preference. At scarlet: Syrian (big) hamsters are solitary. Dwarf species are actually pretty sociable. But on this note, you should bear in mind that there IS a chance they'll fight, just the same as when you keep any animal in pairs.

The pet store should have told you it would only live about a year or two. It's blind and it's gonna die.
