Wow how unusual at that age! Are they identical or fraternal? Congrats!
Typically babies are released at 5lbs 5oz + but I have heard of cases where babies were able to be released from the hospital at 4 pounds. It really depends on what issues they are having, such as feeding, breathing (lung development) and how generally healthy they are.
Sometimes hospitals will keep the babies until their actual due date :) Good luck! At 7 months those are great weights.

Sweetie, congratulations on your grandbabies. As a precaution, they may suggest they be kept in the NICU(Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) over night. This is to make sure their lungs are working properly, their health is good. Now,they may let them come home about 3 days as they would any full term baby. However, they may also,if they find anything keep them longer. You will simply have to wait and see what is said while they are watched over night. Then again they may be absolutely healthy, and well enough to bring them home about Christmas or a little after. Some suggest about 5 lbs,and ive even heard of some allowing them to leave when they are 4lbs or more. You will have to wait it out. They will know what is best.Good luck hun,and Have a good night! What an awesome Christmas present!

I would leave this question to trusted medical professional(s).
One baby may be ready to go home before the other, that may make it an easier transition for both your daughter and yourself. I think talk of "going home" is getting ahead of yourself. I'd be more concerned with the health and well being of the babies and your daughter at this point.
Congratulations and Merry Christmas!!
Note - check out the State Children's Health Program, it is a federal and state program that provides health insurance to pregnant women and children, your daughter may be eligible and/or her children, it's possible that your income would not be considered, depending on the state you reside in. (USA based)

As long as they are breathing on their own, able to suck from a bottle and weight about 5 pounds they should be able to come home. Premature babies can have other complications that don't show up right at birth, such as heart murmers, cerebral palsey, vision and hearing problems.... My sister had her twins at about the same age as your grandchildren. They are 3 years old now. One has cerbral palsey but all other development markers are great for both of them.
