Atheism is a rejection of superstition and the supernatural.
Religion is based on superstition and the supernatural.
So Atheists would not celebrate a religious event.
Neither would an atheist succumb to a religious based spirituality.
But Atheists do celebrate the Human spirit (our ability to achieve, as a species, by virtue of our own endeavor).
To an Atheist celebrating Christmas, this is the true celebration, the girding of the collective human loins to face the challenges the new year has to offer.
Remember that Christmas was originally the celebration of the winter solstice, the true ending and 'rebirth' of the year. The celebration of a true physical event.
With multiple calender changes moving the date and the historic development of religion from fetish and paganistic, through many changes to our present day monotheistic Christianity, this celebration has lived on in different guises.
Today's present guise is as the token day of celebration of the birth of the rejected Jewish Messiah.
Thus religion has hijacked a secular celebration and modified it.
I want to know why Christians feel it necessary to hold this fake spiritual event at this time of year, when there own historians tell them that Jesus was born around March.

No, it is not possible, if they did all of the sudden celebrate Christmas, like that other person said, they would either be stupid or not atheist. Santa Claus is not pagan! He comes from St. Nick, who is certainly not an atheist. Christmas is a christian holiday, whoever that person was that said it wasn't. Just because Jesus was born in March doesn't make the holiday non-christian. They decided to celebrate Christmas in December because it had to do with so many full moons after Jesus' birth in March. The Catholic Church also decided to move it to separate the holidays a bit.
And Jesus would approve of December! He was just a Jew because that is the faith he was born into. Catholicism was not an available faith back then. You don't think the Son of God believed that he was the Son of God?
I guess Atheists might be able to create a new holiday for gift-giving and stuff, but it wouldn't make sense if they celebrated Christmas, because Christmas is celebrated around God and Jesus. I am not insulting Atheists or anything, I just don't believe they could celebrate Christmas unless they believed in God.

On the same subject but from another perspective, how can a true Christian celebrate Christmas? The alleged Jesus could not possibly have been born in December and he was Jewish which means he wouldn't approve in the first place.
Certainly an athiest can be spiritual and can be a fine person who cares for others without asking anything in return. From my perspective, being a good person without the threat of eternal damnation is far more honorable than behavoir under the threat of damnation.

Santa isn't Pagan...he's based off of Saint Nicholas, who gave presents to children while dressed in red.
Anyone can get into Christmas spirit. Sure it's a holy time for Christians, but a large percentage of non-christians still celebrate the holiday. No matter what religion we are, we can still enjoy this time of jubilation and happiness, just like any other human being can.

Yes, most definately.
I am a Buddhist. And buddhists do not
believe in a creator God, but I have a
Christmas spirit. Christmas and all holidays
are about familys being together to have
excellent wholesome conversations, to enjoy
each others company, to laugh with one
an other, and to especially enjoy seeing
all the children and grandchildren having
so much joy and fun during the Holidays !
Thanks, You Asked An Excellent Question !
Happy Holidays to You and to all of your
families and friends !!!
