If it's a tradition with your family. Go for it! If it isn't...... Then ask other family members if they would like to start that tradition. Hey traditions have to start somewhere. Why not with you? :d

When I was a child, some 40 years ago, it was a tradition to open one present the night before christmas. Usually my parents, my mom really, would hand us a package that was about 8 inches across and about 1 foot long to open. Of course it was new pajamas that of course we would wear to bed that night, so when she took pictures the next morning, they wouldn't be filled with holey pj's or ones that were pretty worn out.
I didn't carry on that tradition, but do allow my kids to open one present the night before, usually from somebody that lives out of town.
As far as traditions go, you can make your own tradition or carry on one that has been in your family for generations. IF you are married to or dating somebody that doesn't have the same tradition, then you need to sit down and decide what you want to do as your new family grows. The choice is yours.
Have fun and Merry Christmas.

I usually allow my children to do that. Waiting for Christmas morning is sometimes just TOOO exciting and letting them pick one gift from under the tree gives them a little fun ahead of time, plus it calms them down just a bit...LOL. Knowing they get to pick just one Christmas Eve, they then pick which one to open VERY carefully.

depending on your heritage, you may open presents(Cristian or pure blood American) but if you were say Jewish, you would on 8 days, which Christmas would be one of. however you may have your own type of celebration without presents.
