"hourglass" typically describes a body that has larger hips and bust (about the same size) and a smaller waist. like 36-24-36. there are no set measurements, because women of all sizes can have an hourglass shape. from your measurements, it sounds like you have a well-defined waist but are a bit heavier on the bottom than on the top.

Recently, the Discovery Channel had a program on sexuality. Part of the program had to do with what shape men find most atttractive. It turns out a ratio was involved, 80% - 70% - 100%, bust - waist - hips. But then, some people think otherwise, such as regarding the pinups of the 50's and 60's which defined the natural hourglass figure (as opposed to artificial figure shaping with foundation garmets), bust and hips about the same with a narrower waist. Marlyn Monroe is a classic case, 36-24-36, and by the way, wore dress size 14, (See the movie "Some Like It Hot" or "7 Year Itch" where the subway breeze lifts her dress. I'm sure you've seen the still picture.) far from the stick figure fashion supermodels we see today who wear size 0 or the new size 00. Personally, I'd prefer Ms. Monroe's size 14 over ANY stick figure size 0. Not to worry about your measurements. In my opinion, they're just fine.

the 36-24-36 are measured as such:
36 in bust
24 in waist
36 in hips
you have a 31 in bust, 25 in waist and 34 in hips so you are pretty close to an hourglass shape.

Hourglass is when your bust measurement and hip measurement are about the same and you are smaller around the waist. I'd say you are pear shaped if your measurements that are 31-25-34, which is a healthy and attractive body shape. HTH : )

36, 24, 36, are the perfect measurements, but because you have those measurements, doesn't mean that you have the perfect hour glass shape.
