I write a check. I never know how much I'll spend. I don't carry hundreds of dollars around in cash.

I'm with you. So should letting women go to supermarkets. For something they allegedly do every week, they never get the hang of it. they are disorganised, never have a list, can't pack whilst the goods are coming through, never know where their purse is, can't park a trolley.
While do people standing in the deli queue never decide what they want until they are served? They wait for 5 minutes, then get served and say "Ooh, what shall I have?"
I tell you, on Friday, I just sooo wanted a shotgun.
Edit.
From the answers above, do none of you have debit cards?

That is a good question. In today's society no one should be slowing down other people by making them wait while they write a check. If they insist on using checks they should have everything filled out except the amount before they get to the cashier.

I never carry cash as it is easy to keep up with a checkbook. I fill out my check before hand except for amount,so I don't slow down the line.

I write a check because I can track my expenses that way. I write down in the book what it's for, when and what I bought. It helps me budget better. Sorry if I inconvience YOU but, I have to do what is best for my family. So learn to deal with it. Some of us are not in a hurry because we know how to live.

I didn't think people wrote checks anymore! :) Whenever I go to the store, most folks use credit cards/debit cards. Very, very few pay with cash, or check.
