Umm...NO! The bible says we do not know when the world will end. It could happen any day any time. It could happen in 5 seconds for all we know.

Are you honestly worried about this ? Babe I am a lot older than you I should think. People from all over the world and for many centuries have been saying the earth will end. Even Nostradamus predicted it would end in 2001 and he was wrong. Apart from man blowing all the earth apart, the only way the earth will end is when the sun goes super nova and dies then it will burn the earth to a cinder and then we will just be a cold asteroid floating in space. Apart from man give it a few million years babe.

That is just a crock. It was the same at the turn of the Millenium and before that every 10 or 14 years. It is either the so called scientists doing projections or one or another fringe church group touting up themselves as mainstream and grabbing a headline that deals with their Biblical or other insight into the coming end of the world. Doomsday, Revelations, they have all been used and none are true. They earth may have a centre of gases but the vents throughout take care of your balloon theory... hope this helps

Well it all depends. From a religious standpoint the date and time can vary depending on the denomination. From an astronomical standpoint, it will end when either a) the sun stops converting helium into carbon and becomes a white dwarf or b) during the red giant phase of the sun (the last 10% of the sun's life) the outer layers of the solar atmosphere will expand enough to engulf the inner solar system. Either way, these won't happen for about another 4-5 million years. Our generation and many generations from now will never see the end of the world actually happen.

The Sun doesn't have enough to go supernovae or even novae for that matter. It will become a red giant and expand in size until it engulfs the Earth. Not quite as spectactular but still bad for us.
I think this is due to happen sometime next Tuesday.

There have been many rumours over the years about the end of the world, but I doubt it will actually happen just yet. If it does end in 2011, all our preparations for the Olympics will have been a waste of time & money, won't it?!

Just a minor addition.
Various people have said it is when the sun expands/shrinks or whatever in a few million years.
This is the right idea but it is a few billion years not million. The sun will expand, engulf mercury and maybe venus and will fry the earth.

Trust me the world has been going to end since the very beginning of time. Always a big fear of mine, but hey, what can anyone do about it - NOTHING.
So enjoy every day as if its your last! Then you will have no regrets then.
DO NOT live you life worrying about something that may NEVER happen. Happy New Year!

the previous post said the sun will explode in 6-8 billion years but its more likely to be 5 billion years when the sun turns into a red giant and engulfs the earths orbit so that is when the Earth will end not when it actually explodes but when it ingulfs our orbit.
I hope that this helps

In about a quarter of an hour if I can persuade the other duty officer to turn his key when I turn mine. That will teach the CO to cancel my Christmas leave!
