The only difference is the cover/jacket :)
I have the childrens cover versions, and my mum has the adult cover versions, and we found no difference.

At first there was only the one version of each book that came out. When it was discovered that parents and other adults were reading the books for their own enjoyment a new market was spotted – Adults who would be embarrassed to be seen reading a child’s book on the London Tube.
Solution to problem – re illustrate the cover for adults who were with out the ability to find pride in their inner-child. It also meant that single families would buy two books rather than share a single copy of each book.
Result – higher sales than would normally occur.

There are no differences between the books. I knew someone who went through them both, side by side, page by page, to ensure he wasn't missing something in one book compared to the other.
The only difference is the frontpage "cover" illustrations. The childrens ones are colourful and enjoyable. The adult ones are more moody, more like something an adult would put on a bookshelf.

i imagine the basically massive difference is the covers, the "man or woman" variations have covers with out the representation on the cover which makes them seem as if youngster fiction, that's continually a extra mundane image variety conceal.

Nothing story-wise, just different covers so adults won't feel ashamed.
