Why would it be any different than if it was installed?

In the trunk. or under the hood the temp will still be in the 30's!

As long as the battery has a good charge in it. As a battery becomes discharged, the acid and water tend to seperate, this of course can allow the battery to freeze, however, in the trunk, at only 30 degrees, and with even some charge, it should be fine. If you are unsure, using a voltmeter, check battery D.C. voltage, if it reads more than 10 volts, you should be in fine shape, overnight, although you should charge the battery if it reads less than 12 volts before using it.

The battery will be fine there. Yes, there is a difference between the hood and trunk (most are not interchangeable).

it won't hurt the battery, but i would have it in something so you don't ruin the carpet in there.
