in quantum physics it is thought that dimensions are like similar worlds, this is nonsense, this is only because the makers of star trek and other SF writers thought it sounds cool. Dimensions are things like length and height. There are currently 4 known dimensions. Length (x) height (y) depth (z) and Time (or imaginary time iT). Some of the theories of quantum reality such as the string theory predict the existance of about 10 to 26 more dimensions that we cannot see. These dimjensions are subatomically curled up around the 4 dimensions that we can 'observe'
