the more points you have the more you can do. you're charged 5 points for asking a question and recieve 2 for answering. also you receive 10 if your answer is chosen the best by askers or voters. yes you receive 1 point for voting on a best answer. there are different levels you can work towards, for example i'm on level 5 with 9121 points and when i answer this question i will have 9123. obviously the more points you accumulate the more questions and answers you can do. click on your avater name and it will take you to your home site and there you will find all your answers.

In regards to grades, total points is the actual number of points you can earn, earned points are what you acheived and what your grade is based on. In a test you might have 100 total points but you might earn 90 point, thus you have a 90 %
