KTM 'morphs' at a fairly fast pace. They are a small cottage factory that builds no excuses race bikes. The changes are made in order to stay competitive.

There was a bodywork change in the mid 90's, no sure what year, then a significant chassis and body change in '98. There were updates made every year from '98 until 2006, but the basic engine/chassis combination remained. '06 found another major update.

As small as KTM is and with the nature of the market they are in, parts production for old machines just doesn't happen. I.E. it's already getting tough to get some parts for the '98/'99/'00 bikes, much less one that is 17 model years old as you are already aware.

Holeshot Engineering used to be involved with some vintage KTM stuff, as was Barry Higgins H&H motorcycles. Barry sold his shop recently and I'm not sure what direction the new owners are taking the business. To be honest, I'm not sure if Holeshot is even around anymore. Try a web search and see where that takes you.

Good luck!
