As Malware programs become more complicated and harder to detect and remove the companies like Norton must spend much money combating this. As a result the programs usually increase in price form year to year. This is not the fault of Norton, McAfee, CA or any of the companies.
I use a pay AntiVirus porgram from CA and am very happy with it. I will continue to use it as the price increases. I trust it and depend on it to help protect my computer.
With that said, I want you to know I do not trust it completely. I back up that program with one called Cyberhawk. This program works with your AV and AS programs and provides an extra layer of protection. It is not intended to be used as your primary protection.
I am testing the latest version of AVG 7.5 on another computer. It has picked up two new viruses but that is not the fault of AVG. These are two new viruses that AVG had not been updated to recognize. Within 24 hrs of the infections the AVG was updated and could recognize and remove them.
I have several friend and family members that use the free AVG 7.5 and are well protected. These people also use the Cyberhawk program as additional protection.
If you choose to use AVG you will be well protected.
You can get the AVG 7.5 from this safe download site. The Grisoft site can be a little confusing in downloading the free version. This site eliminates the confusion. It is safe and guarantees no additional spyware download.

This is the site for Cyberhawk. It is free also.

Hi,
I am a former Norten's user. Norten's let in a virus and it crashed my hard drive. The techie that fixed my computer had nothing flattering to say about Norton's products, and installed avg free for me.
I love it!! gone is the CPU hog and in it's place is an anti-virus that works and won't let you down. I've been using avg free for quite sometime now and no problems with it what so ever.
I would choose avg. AVG Is the best free anti-virus that you can download!
Hope that this helps you!

I had the same problem a few months back and virtually asked the same question. Norton really gets annoying them asking for dough every year. So anyway AVG was reccomended to me and I installed it. Its free and it has stopped some viruses also it has updates that are FREE! I felt like a chump for even bothering with norton and their phoney baloney subscription service. For the intital cost of the software you should get everything, them asking for 50 dollars a year is bogus.

I have the free AVG right now, It is great. BUT--it stops being free on January 15, 2007, and then you have to pay I believe $69 for it.

I've had AVG for over a year now, and it's been fantastic. The only complaint I have is that if you have a desktop PC (like I do) it scans very often (about every other time you reboot). But, better safe than sorry.

hold on to your nads guys.....
AVG was purchased by Symantic......(Norton)
the AVG system will be itegrated into the new Grisoft/Norton antivirus scanner.
AVG is no longer going to be a free program, and the debate of which is better will be over forever.
they are one in the same now.

on the "domicile" unit: un-installation the McAfee garbage. basically a million anti-virus in protecting with device in all circumstances. Avast (loose) is solid. installation a stout firewall on each and each and every unit. Kerio is solid; Zone Alarm loose has basically been "Upgraded" meaning more desirable bells and that is not frequently a superb bypass. once you're utilising WiFi, get the "community" itself secured through configuring the router to have WPA2-AES encryption. somewhat artwork yet nicely genuinely worth the attempt once you're in a city or suburb. (this isn't concerning to computing device protection, a lot as information transmissions). the position suited (Vista/Win7), computers would have "domicile community" settings, yet on condition that you've a reliable recognize-how of the complicated nature of domicile windows protection. All units must have Firefox, with "NoScript" upload-on, as their regular (default) browser. a lot more desirable might want to be done yet those are starting off factors. don't be discouraged through the quantity of work mandatory to get & keep your community secured; failure to do the mandatory steps will basically convey significant hassle to all units at your position of abode community.
