If it is like a job situation I tell em to go for it. But
they also need to look at the law of supply and demand.
Can they make a living doing what they want to do?
Are there a lot of jobs out there for that sort of thing?
I tell em to go for it but supplement themselves with
a back up plain.

I say go for it. I do try and encourage them in a positive way, but sometimes feel the need to point out disadvantages..

If their idea is preposterous, like if they want to be a performer but they sing like Nellie Furtado, then I do tell them that they're full of it....HOWEVER, if someone has a legitimate plan for achieving their goal, then I am supportive and I do encourage them....

I think if someone shares their dream, it should be encouraged no matter what it is. Too many people along the way will dump on it, you don't have to be one of them.

I'm always optimistic. I never give up hope and I believe anybody is capable of anything as long as they have the desire and willpower to pursue it.
