Great question! I would go directly to the managers/sales people who are trying to sell you your lease. They should provide these statistics. If not, there are zillions of apartments available out there. Go for it!

What difference does it make if an apartment has had a fire or someone die in it?

I suppose you are like most of us trying to raise children in a decent neighborhood with good to excellent nreighbors.

I would be more interested if there had been a recent drive by, or if the police are in the neighborhood all during the night.

Other things to worry about are there any bars or strip clubs in the area. Where are my children gonna play? Does the swimming pool have lifeguards during normal day light hours.

Are there and when was the last burglery in the neighborhood, are there any visiable gangs located in the neighborhood? How about parking, do I have to walk a long way to and from the nerarest parking place if I have to park on the street.

How far are the closets schools and church that I might want to attend.

But who died and the last fire in an apartment or the history of an apartment, not a problem.

I want to use if for a time after which I am gonna move on to a house I have purchased or a bigger apartment for myh family.

I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck.

that is a very interesting question. i wish i knew why you ask it. most people simply want to know about different neighborhods or styles of buildings.

i wonder if you are asking because you are superstitious? it used to be law in illinois that if a person had been murdered or died of natural causes in a residence, it had to be disclosed to a potential purchaser. that is sort of strange. it's like putting the onus of death onto a piece of property. and so later it became a discrimination issue, and now we are not allowed to say these things.

but... as to fires, ask your local fire department where you can go, i.e., to what specific office of your municipality, to learn of history of fires in your building.

the first person i would ask about death in my apartment would be my landlord or management company. if the person says that they can't talk about it, don't press it. i might also ask my neighbors, but they might tell me lies or erroneous rumors. i doubt if there is any office, even in insurance companies, where you can find out about anyone dying in your specific apartment.
