Don't go to chatrooms!
Join a message board of people that have the same interests you do. Those boards have their own chats, where the people don't just want cyber sex.
I've been a member of the same 3 boards for 9 years and have made several friends. We've met in RL and share our joys, our families, and even our pet sitting duties!

I know the feeling. 9 out of 10 of the men who message me want to have cyber sex and I'm totally not interested. If you go into chat rooms stating that you would like to chat, but NOT about sex..then the people looking to have a normal chat will message you. (Of course this will take a lot longer because most people are looking for cyber) I have a few friends who messaged me when I just asked if anyone wanted to chat...they wanted to have cyber sex, i said no, they said okay, and continued talking to me. Just be straight forward with people and tell them thats NOT what you're looking for. If thats all they want they'll leave, if not, they'll stick around. Also try myspace or something public like that. Alot of people on there are looking for friends, not sex.

Chat is full of gross stupid people...that's why I never go there any more. I'm sure you'll be able to find someone on here...that has yahoo messenger that would talk to you.
I'd offer myself up to the cause...but I'm afraid I'm probably not what you're looking for...and I'm very much a Science Fiction geek.

Try to make some friends on here. I have, and it's good so far. The only down side is...I can never meet them. Because they live in another country.

I feel you on that. It's not just men it's the women too. I don't understand it. But even if it starts out as a regular chat sex is somehow worked into.

I know the feeling. People can't just talk to people without it having to do with nasty sick stuff. Even is the support groups there in there talking about stuff they shouldn't be.
