Depending on the state or county, the criminal records are usually available within the county, state or city court systems. Otherwise there are many sources on google that will check and find criminal records for you for a small fee.

This varies from state to state. With some states, you can go to the website of the attorney general, or secretary of state, and find court dockets. Some you can even access records, since these are generally considered public. But not all states have this, so you have to check around. Although those records are public, no law says they have to be posted online. And then some courts will actually charge you for a record search -which I don't think is very ethical!

www.publicdata.com or www.intellius.com -You have to pay for both of these, but they are VERY good and comprehensive. Alternately, try looking up something like www.(insert your county here).gov or look for links from your local sheriff/police homepage.
