25th was the first and the 5th of January was that last day. Hence all the Christmas decorations have to be down by the 6th January. The first day of Christmas has to be the 25th because it is Christmas Day. The 5th January is the 12th day. Not sure what else you want.

from Wikipedia :
"These are the twelve days beginning on night of the 25th of December and ending on January 5th, the eve of the Feast of the Epiphany. In the Middle Ages this period was one of continuous feasting and merrymaking, which climaxed on Twelfth Night, the traditional end of the Christmas season."

Twelfth night is 6 January.
It's the 12 days between Christmas and 12th night which celebrates Epiphany when the 3 wise men brought gifts for Jesus (allegedly)

First: u are excited(u are buying gifts, meeting family, looking forward to meet new love, new friends, new year etc); in the very end u are tied and realise that the New Year isn't different from the year before, u have to go back to work, school etc. The most important in the end is hope (maybe) for the all the best. Are you writing a n article or??

Simple rule of Thumb, decorations go up on 24th of December and come down on the 6th of January, or bad luck will ensue
