I wouldn't have said that all unhappy people dislike the hppiness of others - often the spreading of misery is unintentional.
We should all practise Mudita (appreciative joy at the success and good fortune of others).
I'm pretty miserable, but I like other people to be happy. Someone elses happiness doesn't have a negative effect on me.
Perhaps this young lad is jealous?

His parents programmed him to behave that way. And, more likely than not, he doesn't understand what, why, or how he is perpetuating the bad behavior that was drilled into him growing up. He probably cannot separate this belligerent depression from who he is, and almost certainly is incapable of having a rational, objective conversation about it.
Unless he identifies the problem, and implements a plan to gradually change his 'programming', he will be doing this for the rest of his life. Getting a kickass therapist is the best bet to conquer this demon.
btw: Screw everyone who disagrees with this, but modern drug therapies can radically change a person's life the better. If you're under 20, by all means, try to go drug-free if you can manage it.
But if you're in your 30's; GO ON THE MEDS. PRIDE NEVER DID ANYTHING GOOD FOR ANYONE, ANYWHERE.

I don't think they dislike the happiness of others, they just don't know how to respond when they've never actually felt happiness in the first place. Their perception of the world is negative and that does not make them 'unhappy people' it's just people who've never experienced happiness, hence one cannot give what they don't have within themselves.....its not all lost though!! The 'state' of being happy can be achieved through awareness of ones thoughts and understanding how the mind translates events & responses.

What a lousy earth! How many winners were losers, successes failures, and rich men poor men? How many wise guys were stupid? How many happy endings were unhappy endings? How many honest men were liars, brave men cowards, loyal men traitors, how many sainted men were corrupt, how many people in positions of trust had sold their souls to blackguards for petty cash, how many had never had souls? How many straight-and-narrow paths were crooked paths? How many best families were worst families and how many good people were bad people? When you added them all up and then subtracted, you might be left with only the children, and perhaps with an Albert Einstein and an old violinist or sculptor somewhere.
Heller once said, "Everyone in my book accuses everyone else of being crazy. Frankly, I think the whole society is nuts and the question is: What does a sane man do in an insane society?"
Robert M. Young, writing about Catch-22, answers, "For the most part, what they try to do is survive in any way they can."

Happiness very much depends on the purity of your mind. The more you have something to hide, lesser the happiness you can have. Leading an open life is the best way to have a happy mind. But, in the case of the unhappy group, they cannot open their mind because of the filthy secrets they keep within. That means a happy mode is unattainable for them. Gradually this group gather jealousy within. (In my view, jealousy is the stinking smell of unfulfilled lusts in one's life). Jealousy is like sulphur. It keeps burning within. When they see happy people the amount of jealousy increases (means more sulphur is poured into the fireplace).
If that lad is in such a situation now, just watch the situation he lives. Sometimes his parents can be similar or the situation he lives must be similar. Since he is at a tender age, if someone very close to him is interested, the unclean secrets can be drained out and save him. But it needs a very careful physiological approach.

Unhappy people can't help it when they see a happy person. It's like, How dare you be happy when I'm in here drowning in misery? They hate happy people because they want to be like them. They want to be happy.

i suppose it might have something to do with evolution.
if he's not happy and other people are then the happy successful people are supposedly doing better than he is and getting further ahead.
no one likest o be left behind so his reaction to deal with it is to try and pull them down to either his level or below him so that he can be further up...
jealousy's an interesting thing. it's supposed to help you advance yourself and work to preserve and protect what you have. but people do abuse nature's intended purpose for it all the time.

it's obvious that perfection has to be a part of this issue, as well as jealousy, greed and hate...it's a mixed-use problem which is related to the childhood and home education....
I think, people do this, either to be perfect or because they're jealous, therefore, sometimes they refuse all the good and positive issues they already have!

People with negative energy try to ruin your positive outlook of life... I don't know why they are doing this though....I just know that they aren't capable to see the colors of the life...and the nuances between...
Don't let someone to ruin that point of view....negative feelings can be transmitted to you...and you don't want that ...don't you think?
