Whose lyrics were better?

Nothing can compare to the Syd Barrett-era Floyd; and actually his influence remained for years after he was thrown out following his mental breakdown. Floyd continued to sing his songs, then they began to sing song ABOUT him - those songs became their finest body of work, in my opinion.
John Lennon rated Barrett, too. I rated Lennon. Had the Beatles not had Lennon, they would have been nothing. I would love to have seen a band comprised of Lennon-Barrett: now that WOULD have been something!

Lyrically the Beatles but musically it can only be Pink Floyd

The Beatles hands down. Even though I probably like Floyd a little better.

Depends on the period and the situation. Waiting for the Worms would be highly unsuitable for a cutesy flirty evening, as would Love Me Do be for a "I want to smash the next person I see's ugly face in" room lock-in.
I like Pink Floyd better, as they had a wide range of lyrics about many different things, and the Beatles wrote a good bit about love, peace, and psychedelia.

From an artistic sense I would have to go with ol Roger of the Floyd but in terms of influence the Beatles reached a larger audience and had a profound effect upon society.

Pink Floyd did have a few lyrics that bested the Beatles, but then again "I am the Walrus" was written on acid
