I am a13 year old boy and I want to be a tall person (about 6 feet and above) but I want to be very fit (because I wanna be an athlete when I grow up), would you recommend me to do lunges and squats using 5 kg(10 pound) dumbells because I want to jump higher because I am playing basketball at my school? Can lifting 5kg dumbells in any way (standing, sitting or lying down) stunt ur growth?

My parents are 5'7 and 5'3 but the rest of my family memebers are 5'9 and above. I even have an uncle and a great grand father that have 6'6. CAn this affect me?

being short is not always bad.
if you are attracting, then it doesnt really matter how tall you are.
good luck!

With you being 13 dont start lifting weights too soon b/c once when you get into high school thats when they offer weight lifting and you should take it then ( your body is still growing). About the height issue you might be tall and you might be short it just depends on your genes that your parents gave you and what their parents gave them. My mom is 5'4 and my dad was 6'5 but like most women I am my mom's height and my son is almost 2 years old and he is getting pretty tall. So its basically based on genes.

Well, there's not much you can do about your height, positive or negative. I'm not sure what exercise you are talking about, but I suggest to anyone not to try to get muscular so much, but just toned. What I mean is, if you want to be an athlete, you are better off extremely well defined (like a typical NBA player) rather than like a bodybuilder. That means high reps/low weight. I think u want to do calf exercises to increase your jump, as well as simply practicing your slama-jama jumps, lol. Remember, you are actually genetically closer to your grandparents on both sides than to your parents.

No, don't do that yet. You should do some sports such as basketball or volleyball.

Look at your aunts and uncles, and their children, they are most likely what you will look like.
