I live in Perris California and it is a town of about 45,000 people,. This is small comparied to Riverside (It has at least 400,000 people). Gasoline prices in Perris are out of this world! It is 2.63 per gallon in Perris and it is 2.49 in Murrieta. Murrieta is 16 miles south from here with a population of about 75,000. Smaller towns have always had higher prices of gasoline. Most of the people in Perris are uneducated and hispanic and I am told this price discrimination is a form of racism. How can I stop this from happening? Soy Milk is also more here. 2.96 at Wal-Mart in Perris, while at 2.50 at Wal-Mart in Hemet. What can I do? I already buy most of my gasoline in Murrieta where it is 15 cents cheaper. I am in a town that has 6% of the people with a bachelors, so this town really needs help. thanks Sandra G.

That extra money needed for the item is paying for the luxury of having that item available in a smaller town. Prices are naturally going to be smaller in an area that can sustain that market. Smaller markets need to be charged a little bit more in order to keep things rolling.
It isnt discrimination, it's economics.

I'm not saying that it was right what this teacher did , but I think there is a misunderstanding of what was appropriate for an art clay sculpture. Maybe Hitler should be displayed in the History Classroom and not in a public Art kiln. Many people have strong opinions on Hitler, and you may feel is a "freedom of speech " when the figure is displayed in your Home, but School is a public setting and the correct thing to do is to ask what is it "exactly" the teacher wants him to do.

It's not DISCRIMINATION or RACISM.

You really need to go look up the actual definitions of those words.....unfortunately, they are being misused frequently these days.

What does cause price disparities is the simple but often misunderstood LAWS OF ECONOMICS.

CAPITALISM is a very simple system of economics and government. It is the closest system we have ever had that closely represents NATURE.

Those that think that businesses RIP OFF consumers do not even understand the simplest fundamentals of economics.....it's CONSUMERS who have the power to spend and businesses cater to them.....

That isn't discrimination, it's the cost of doing business. If you want to save money go to a bigger town. The less population results in increased prices.

Pass laws to outlaw market pressures on prices, and to prevent companies that have more expenses getting products to one area, to not be able to pass on those costs to consumers.

Then when this happens, the stores move out of the area and the residents complain that the stores have moved out. If there are no stores to "overcharge" then you have prevented overcharging.

Are there a lot of stores and gas stations? How about opening a new store or gas station. Increased competition will bring prices down.

that's not price discrimination. It's supply and demand. The racial make up of the town has nothing to do with it, education also plays no part in it.

Welcome to Capitalism: where businesses rip off consumers as often as they can.

In a market economy you WILL get ripped off and you WILL be told it is good for you.

Suggestion: start a town cooperative and take control of the town's groceries.
