FROM MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, MERCEDES IS BETTER, BMW BREAKS DOWN OFTEN. GOT RID OF MY BMW AND NOW DRIVE A MERCEDES

i think short run BMW is better, long run mercedes is better. I own a BMW, and I know its only gonna be a cool car for maybe 5 more years, and probably is no good after 150k miles. But for now, its cooler than the mercedes I could have got for the same price, plus it handles better, and is more technologically advanced. But in 10 years, the mercedes will look better, be in better shape, run better, and overall will hold up a lot better than my BMW will.

Look at it this way, take the S class and 7 series from '94. The 7 is now a POS, has major mechanical problems, and just looks like a junker. The S from '94, the so called "big body", is a classic, and some people actual prefer that car over the new S (see all the arab leaders/oil tycoons still driving that around today). Something about the mercedes look stands the test of time 2,3, or 4 body styles later, while the BMW is cool and flashy for the present, and when that 3rd body style comes out, it looks like crap. Also, you don't see any BMW's with 1-2million miles on em, but you see tons or mercs with over 1million.

What do you mean by better? The best driving car is a BMW. Mercedes is a good car but it is more a luxury car than a drivers car. In general you can get more power for the price in a BMW than in a Mercedes at the same price. For instance: you can get a nice 3-Series for (about 35K), the same money would maybe get you a C-class Mercedes (about 40K). I would take a 3-Series BMW over a C-Class Mercedes any day of the week. Now if I had E-Class money that would be a harder choice because the 5-Series BMW (50K) is not much better than the 3-Series. In general if you like to drive then BMW is your car. If you like luxury and can afford at least an E-Class Mercedes (60K) is the way to go. I am a driver so I would take a M-3 or an M-5 over any Mercedes. Don't waste money on a C-Class Mercedes better to have a slightly used E-Class. In general, You can get power in a Mercedes you just pay a premium for it. I want the most power I can get for the least amount of money but then I got no friends to impress.

As a BMW mechanic for a while, I can state that from a reliability standpoint, they are not any better than a Mercedes. BMW uses a very complex K and M bus system in many of their vehicles. It operates each device with its own computer module, like a miniature internet in your car. The low voltage controls and numerous connections, modules and sensors make it prone to failure, depending on the model & year of course. The BMW's with I-drive are the most troublesome and unless you're intrigued by the joystick control, I would avoid it completely.

BMW's best cars are still their 3-series. Very solid, simpler and reliable. The worst ones are their 6 and 7-series. Most people who can afford a 6 or 7 can also afford to repair it and trade it in every 3 or 4 years too...

Mercedes have always been known for having very solid construction and reliability. They are used frequently in Europe for taxi's. Since Mercedes has merged with Chrysler, their styling has improved a lot too and they're a lot less stodgy than they used to be.

If it were my choice, I'd get a Mercedes.

this is an apples and oranges question.

we own both and i prefer the bmw. the mercedes surprisingly has been to the shop more. only time i take the mercedes is those long freeway trips but even then i prefer the ford truck.

i dont like the whole daimler chrysler thing. why spend the money on mercedes when i can get a charger or grand cherokee. i think thats what sets bmw apart less parts bin stuff goes into their cars.

Of course. Mercedes is for status and to be ostentacious. BMW is for driving. It just happens to be expensive because Americans are idiots and will pay anything for something they think looks better than their neighbor's or friend's thing. I have owned 8 BMWs and an Audi, and will never own a Mercedes because I love to drive, as well as have a penis. People without penises will buy Mercedes over BMW because they are almost always offered with an automatic and that's easier.

We own an independent BMW & Mercedes repair shop here in Las Vegas. From what we experience from day to day. Mercedes is more expensive to repair. Plus more things go wrong with them based on miles driven. Is one better than the other, they both pay the bills but as a car owner and enthusiast, you would catch me dead in a merc. Unless it's a funeral car of course.

Totally! BMW is better than mercedes in terms of pick up, speed and reliability. But if you have cash to burn and can afford the road tax, go for the mercedes as it provides more comfort. I recommend the ones with Kompressor.

mercedes is much better than BMW. Im sick of there models that are out. Mercedes look 100 times better than BMW. Every car mercedes makes looks awesome. They are also more reliable and hold value. BMW decline so quickly. And a C-class does not cost 40,000. Nice try buddy.

Yes.

Mercedes is nothing like what it used to be. They still build very nice cars, but the days of the Mercedes that lasts for 25 years are OVER. That level of quality and reliability are no longer there and haven't been since the late 1980s.

BMW has it's problems, but it's at least equal to Mercedes in most areas and I'd say better in others.
