I already have one dog who I absolutely love to bits. I was given another dod and I just don't like the dog (I've now found a new home for her). Other people stop me in the street to tell me how "cute" this dog is but every time I look at her, I feel almost an intense dislike.
I'm experienced with dogs but I've had no luck training this one. Not only does she do her turds at random in my home, she has taken to poo-ing on my new sofa. I have tried to make her happy by taking her for long walks, giving her plenty of high quality food, cuddling her and letting her sleep in my bed and being very patient with her inability to learn anything. But every time she looks at me, I secretly hate her.
She also has this thing for food. She follows me around all day begging for food and she acts as though this begging is somehow cute but its far from cute.
Is it normal to sometimes just not take to a certain pet at all?

Yes, I guess it is like some people there are ones that you just dislike for no reason. I am a total animal lover and do alot for animal rights but there some certain ones I just can not take to. I adore and worship my Lab and he can do no wrong, but our other family dog I just tolerate. We got him first and I just never took to him, no matter how hard I try. He never has done anything to me and I would never hurt him but he really annoys me at times. Maybe a personality conflict, I do not know but it happens.

Of couse it is! Each dog or cat is an intelligent being with feelings and emotions. They may have small brains but that doesn't mean that they don't sense your lack of love or that the two of you are just not right for each other...animals seem to have that sixth sense about humans and they know when their human isn't sincere and that will sometimes cause them to act out to get out of your home and then that is when they run away one day...finding the animal a new home was the best thing to do! Thank you for not dumping the poor fella out on the side of the road somewhere.

Yes. Even when it is other people we can instantly dislike someone and almost have no reason to do so. It may be a rememberance of something that we don't like such as a smell or an expression they use that causes a bad memory or feeling to surface. I think that it is good that you gave the dog away. They can sense things and it probably knew it was not your favorite. It may be why it used the bathroom in the house as well. Or that could also be why you disliked him.

I agree with "Don't Eat Daisy"'s answer. Dogs are extremely instinctive, attentive animals, and she definitely caught on to the fact right away that you didn't care for her.
This dog is not going to listen well for anything if she knows you don't like her. Her bad behavior is probably a result of her confusion with your actions in relation to your non-verbal signals to her and her stress of being around an owner that just can't love her as much as it loves its other dog. Clearly, she's not begging for food, but for your sincere love and attention.

First, you need to answer if it is normal to have a dog sleeping on your bed and cuddling up on the couch? Now that we got that out of the way, why can't she go to the bathroom on HER couch? It is hers, she is allowed up on it. Do you think that by doing all the things you just mentioned, you will make a dog behave, or you will fall in love with it? Yes, I have gotten some dogs in the past that I did not like, but it was because they could not perform the job that was expected of them, not because they were not CUTE, or did not snuggle well. Those dogs were sent back to their breeders as unsuitable or were sold as pets. Please start treating your dogs like dogs.

A famous scientist in Sweden has found that people are very much like animals in that we smell our potential mates. Like in the Jerry Seinfeld show where he disliked a girl because she smelled like soup.anyways...I called Sweden to see if this carries over to animals and they said yes. It has to do with the pheromones secreted by each individual animal. So yes, it is normal to not take to certain pets.

This is not especially normal but I have been in your shoes. When they pee and poo all over your house and on new things. Your house begins to stink. That can piss anyone off. but If you didn't really want the dog to begin with wether you knew it or not can cause dislike too. I am glad you gave her away. Good luck next time.
