You can...the problem is that they are not very nutritious. It will be better if you can gut-load them, or feed them a food that is super-nutritious. that way, the nutrition will be passed to your turtle when it eats them. I would try to feed the turtle a floating pellet food designed for turtles, supplemented by gut-loaded gish and earthworms as treats. you might be able to find info on what the turtle eats at www.enature.com under the field guides.

Here it is: http://enature.com/fieldguides/detail.asp?source=&parkid=&searchText=&allSpecies=&shapeID=1057&lshapeID=0&curAbbr=&lastView=default&lastGroup=7&lastRegion=&lastFilter=4&lastShapeName=&trackType=&curRegionID=&size=&habitat=&fruit=&color=&sortBy=family&curFamilyID=®ionSelect=All+regions®ionZIP=&curGroupID=7&lgfromWhere=&viewType=&curPageNum=19 According to this, they eat insects, snails, crawfish, and other mollusks, such as clams (adult females).

You can....but some of those fishes are not healthy and can hurt your turtle. Gold fishes are known to contain thiaminase. Which i have very little knowlege of but i know its not good for turtles.

Theyre also known to be fattening. You could say its like feeding your turtle a big mac. Might taste good and is alrite if you eat it only once in a while but dont change that to its main diet.

There are many books on the market that convey the wrong information on the diet of box turtles. Listed below are proven guidelines for feeding box turtles. In a broad sense, box turtles are. opportunistic omnivores, which accounts for their relatively high densities (until recently) in manyareas of the U.S.

Hatchlings and juveniles are primarily carnivorous but consume more plant material as they grow older.

Many wild-collected animals sold in pet shops are reluctant feeders. The key to establishing a healthy feeding routine in box turtles is to set up daily patterns that stimulate and lead to regular and eager feeding.

When to Feed

Allow box turtles to warm up before they are fed. Make sure that the heating units in your indoor vivarium have been turned on for a couple of hours before offering thern food. Offer food every other day to box turtles of all ages, as long as they are not hibernating.

Quick Tip

If you keep your box turtles outdoors, wait until the moming temperatures have started to wann up before offering food to them.

What to Feed

Box turtles recognize food by sight and srnell. To entice thern to feed, you rnust stirnulate both these senses. Offer thern two types of food at each feeding: (1) meat products or live foods and (2) plant matter.

Meat Products

Meat products can include:

. low-fat canned dog food (Foods containing chicken are typically relished by these turtles.)
. finely cut cooked chicken
. finely cut pieces ofbeefheart

Yes you can, but be careful. Wal-Mart employees are known for letting their fish develop all sorts of diseases and parasites.Either way, my turtles LOVE goldfish and minnows.

Be careful that you check all the tanks. Our walmart tanks are connected by the same filtration center. The fish always die. There are always sick ones also. Might be a health risk. The pet stores usually have good little fish that are healthier!

Yes but it shouldn't be the only food. Pellets for turtles and other live foods (snails, worms etc.) to round out the diet.
