Was the cooker bought for use on bottle gas. Normally a new cooker is supplied set up for natural gas and sometimes injectors ( small brass jets ) are supplied separately for bottled gas. If you got it from a bottle gas centre then it will come set up for propane as others have said its the best to use. If you need an engineer to convert / set up the cooker he will have to be CORGI registered and have the callor gas certificate ( different to most engineers as they only have a certificate for natural gas.

If the cooker is dual fuel, then either is Ok.
However, as the bottles are likely to be kept outside then use propane - it has a lower boiling point so the bottles dont lose pressure when the temperature outside drops.
Propane is also supplied in larger 47Kg bottles, and is the fuel of choice.

Propane (Orange bottles ) if the bottles are stored outside - cos Propane has a much lower freezeing point. Both Butane or Propane do same job costs are very similar but Butane will freeze long before Propane - if the gas freezes its un-useable untill temperature rises and defrosts bottle.

Butane and propane are basically the same. Changing from natural gas to propane can cause serious problems though.
