I am patriotic, but not a patriot. I stand up for our troops, no matter how I feel about the government. I vote, even though I don't believe that it does any good anymore and I write letters to my congressmen that I know do not get read.

Yes, I am a patriot, but not by the standards of today's far right. According to them, in order to be considered a patriot, one must blindly support whomever holds the office of president, support useless wars that only cost innocent civilian lives, and more importantly, the lives of American soldiers. To be considered a patriot by the far right, one must be willing to give up the right to peaceful protests (flag burning) and be supportive of the most invasive and unconstitutional set of laws America has ever seen (The Patriot Act). However, by the standards of others, I am a patriot. I love my country, am critical of the government and those in it in an effort to better the government and therefore the country as a whole, and I am a die hard participant in the democratic process.

I support what's right and am an American. Period.

Nazi brownshirts were patriots too. Patriotism is not my moral standard.
