Start educating yourself about the law more. Thats the last thing an employer wants is somebody educated in law. If most people understood the law and what employers can and can't do...alot of people would be in trouble.
Thats the only way I can think to stop it. Educate yourself, and be a leader when an employer is doing wrong.

In Capitalism, the only reason for starting or running any business is to profit from what the workers do. The question you ask is how to withhold that portion of the work being done to which the employer is not entitled by the job they supply, but giving them everything up to that point.
The very definition of exploitation changes almost weekly in our world. Jobs leave the country, new gadgets ease work in the office, inflation keeps climbing, management improves methods of measuring productivity, etc.
It is up to the individual or group of workers to decide what the employer should pass on to them and to go without a job until they find a way to get it. This is a free-market system. Most people would keep their job even when they feel exploited, if it's an economic rather that deeply personal hurt because being unemployed messes up ones life in a big way.

you didn't say in what way businesses were exploiting their workers so how could some one answer, but on the profit side let me assure yo no one is in business for the shear fun of it and if they can't make a profit then they will certaintly be out of business very quickly, and the people who are working for them and collecting their pay so they can buy groceries pay bills etc, will be out of business, this is the problem in America today every one thinks the company is raking in the dough at every turn not realizing the cost of operations or doing business, so they listen to their unions or the gov, tell them they deserve this or that until they break the company, how many union reps or politicians do you know that have ran a business? this kind of thinking has broken the backs of our manufacturing co,s steel co.s Textile etc, look around you how many co,s have moved out of the states already? most of them didn't leave so they could make more profit they left for mere survival. how can a company comete with other s who are paying $3 per hour while they have got to pay $20 per hour plus another $20 per hr. in benifits? and then they don't want to work, show up drunk or doped up
Americans must learn to sacrifice a little or else we won't have any jobs for anyone in the U,S, it should be mandatory for everyone in the U,S, to visit a 3rd world country for at least one week , then they might wake up and want topreserve our countrybefor we end up on some river bank with a couple of pieces of tin nailed to some trees trying to raise our families,

Big business must make a reasonable profit to stay in business. They should balance this with a decent wage and benefits. How to stop unreasonable profits? Don't patronize the business.

It is called unions, not allowing illegal workers in the US that can be easily targeted
And next understanding that most don't, most make profit off of investments and risks and workers don't want to be happy with thier companies doing well.

How do we stop Big Labor Union Bosses from exploiting us Rank & File union members?
How do we stop the Democrat Party from exploiting minorities and poor whites?
(For your information----Most Big Businesses pay their workers $50 to $100 an hour, including fringe benefits. If that's exploiting, I could handle a little of it.)
I don't think you are Too experienced with working for Big Business.
