Age of Empires 2 (haven't got around to 3 yet), World of Warcraft 3 (WoW isn't strategy), Lord of the rings battle for Middle Earth 1 or 2, and Star Wars Empire at War. Knights of the old Republic is also a strategy game but not the type I think your looking for, but I could be wrong. Hope this helps, merry christmas.

Rome Total War, RTW Barbarian Invasion, Medievall II Total War. Also (but less good in my humble opinion) are Cossacks and Age of Empires III. Perimeter and Command and Conquer: Generals are also supposed to be good but I haven't played the latter 2.

Age of Empires III because you got to think what you have to do either defend or attack your enemies, and if your having trouble with history, this is a fun way to learn your kings and queens of the old ages.
