My 5 month old daughter is REALLY bow-legged. I keep trying to tell my family that it will straighting out as she gets bigger and when she starts walking. But have any other parents had a bow-legged infant?? If so, how did it work out for you??

Most infants are bow legged because they are not using their legs a lot right now. They have grown folks to carry her around, so she really doesn't have to work her legs. Encourage her to crawl around a lot more and do leg exercises with her: make her legs go around in a circular motion (like she's riding a bike). This will encourage proper leg development.

As for your little girl being ill, it's going to suck for now. If she gets cranky, hold her and let people see her but don't let them touch her or hold her. She's going to be tepremental right now anyway. So, just take time with your girl and cuddle with her. Alternate Tylenol and Ibuprofen (motrin) every two hours (so tylenol then ibuprofen two hours later, etc). This will keep her pain down and help her sleep and feel better all around.

Happy holidays!

You're not alone. After all that traveling and getting ill, you too must be tired and worried. First off, if she is crabby from being sick a doctor visit is a must no matter where you are today. If she has a dangerous illness or infection early detection can save her life.If it is just the sniffles you will feel better knowing. Do not forget your heath while you are at it. Keep those daily vitamins up and eat smart. Remember, relatives are often well meaning but you are the MOM. And if they feel your baby is bowlegged, point out that their criticism isn't helping you. Let her crawl, and think about ballet and swimming as a toddler if her Doctor advises a non-invasive treatment. You'd be surprised by the number of once bowlegged athletes.

Don't worry about it yet. If you've been to the pediatrician regularly with her, and the doctor hasn't brought it up, it's OK. My 2nd son was pretty bow-legged till he was 3. I took him to an orthopedist just to be on the safe side, and she said that children can have bowed legs till they're 5, and by then it corrects itself (my son's legs are just fine now, BTW). It's all in how their bones grow. No need for braces or anything else. Actually, they recommend against braces anymore.

Your daughter isn't going to walk for another 7 months or so anyway, so just tell your relatives you're training the world's youngest Triple Crown jockey, laugh it off, and have a Happy Holiday season--

The bow legged thing as the others above have said can be very normal and if shes been given the all clear at her check ups then i wouldnt worry to much.
As for the holding to much and the sick of traveling...tell people no and if you dont want to go somewhere dont be pressured into it, you are the mum and you have the god given right to do whats best for your child.

This is your first baby, I can tell - don't let other people tell you what to do. Start right now - put your foot down - tell them enough criticizing and the baby needs "downtime". The more you assert your parental rights now the easier it will be. Stick to your guns mom - take a few weeks off from your family to give you and the baby time off. too much travel and handling is no good for either of you. Take some time off-rest and enjoy your baby!

Just put her on the floor, or lay with her on a bed for a while. Or lay her under a hanging toy. She doesnt have to be held all the time, you're mom, you can tell people she needs a break.

Most babies are bow legged, its the natural shape of their legs. If its something that concerns you, you can ask your pediatrician about it.

all og my kids(5) have been bowlegged. and they all turned out excelent after they started walking I wouldn't bbe too concerned about it until they are older maybe five or six years old. as for your travel weary baby please ask your relatives to leave her alone let her play in her play pen for a while they shouldn't pick her up at every little noise she makes. she needs to unwind from the long trip and then she needs to get used to the amount of people surrounding her
