2 of the most common problems on this body pick up are 1 corrosion build up on the positive battery cable, there are 2 cables that are attached to the positive side of the battery, one goes down to the starter and the other one goes to the fuses box on the drivers side. The corrosion builds up between the 2 cables in the form of Grey corrosion that can be hard to see unless you take the cables apart.
2 bad starter.....If #1b is OK try tapping on the starter lightly with a hammer.Sometimes it will be just enough to get it to start, then get a new starter. good luck, Michael

Even though your lights come on that dosent mean your battery is good. When you try to start the car you put the battery under load and thats when the starter needs the current to start the car. Have a freind, or goto the garage near you and have someone hold a multimeter on the battery as you turn the key and see what the battery voltage drops too, if under 12 volts, then its time to get a new battery.

I'm a mechanic, I see this a lot, a lot of people will over look the simple, chances are its a bad battery, If a battery is very low on power, it can turn your lights on and opperate the simple, but it will not be able to start. It could also be a bad ground, neutral safty switch, broken wire, there are many possibilities. My recomendation is to take it to a garage and have them check it out, just make sure the garage deals in electrical. I've seen a lot of people waste money trying to fix a problem themselves, and a lot of the time it makes them lose more, for one the technician has to recheck everything that was done, and the diagnose the problem.

even though youre lights and things came on i would still unhook your battery cables and make sure there clean and reattach. If it dosent help it is probly in the switch. A new one isn't much $8-$15. And you will have a new key with it.

Have you tried to start it in neutral?
do the other lights on the dash switch when in the start position?
could be a relay or wiring, or possibly the starter itself....
Really hard to diagnose without seeing the vehicle.
Sorry....

You should have a VOLT METER on your dash. turn the key on and see if it reads 12 volts, if not your battery is discharged. Try a jump start.
