my friend needs to get her own apartment but does not work at the momet, but does recieve child support can she use this as her income to rent one or does she have to have a job

she can use the child support, she needs to have her court orders to the amount of it, or some legal document

Yes she can use child support as income as long as she can provide proof for a extended period of time. Most of the time you need to make 3 times the amount of the rent. Finding a apartment that cheap is probably not a good choice for someone with a child. She should try to find a good roommate.

yes, she will have to just show proof ie the check stub. As long as the support is not just a "gentlemans" agreement and it will meet the income requirement she should be fine.

Check out local, state or county, help offices. There are monies for such situations, section 8 is what it's called federally, but that takes forever to get funds. Locally, she will need to look for a job, live in subsidized housing and generally bend over backwards to please these people but she will get help if she cooperates.
