I have never really put Sartre and Eugene O'Neill in the same category. I considered Sartre a philosopher who used plays to discuss his existentialism.
More than any other dramatist, O'Neill introduced the dramatic realism pioneered by Anton Chekhov, Henrik Ibsen, and August Strindberg into American drama, and was the first to use truly American vernacular in his speeches.(1)
Sartre was a French existentialist philosopher, dramatist and screenwriter, novelist and critic. In 1975, when asked how he would like to be remembered, Sartre replied: "I would like [people] to remember Nausea, [my plays] No Exit and The Devil and the Good Lord, and then my two philosophical works, more particularly the second one, Critique of Dialectical Reason.(2)
But if you're asking about the better read, O'Neill for sure.
Sartre was a boring discussion in Philosophy class.
If you are asking about which is more desirable to act in; O'Neill hands down. Even the brain drain with an O'Neill would be better than boring each other to tears with long winded soliloquies drifting into the ethereal mist of existentialism.

Definitely O'Neil. Sartre is entirely too cerebral; there is practically no driving force besides the heady "existence" in his plays. Of course, some prefer this kinda play, but if you ask me, he's meant to be read and not performed. No Exit is a true sleeper.
