No its perfectly normal for people to go into debt for a one day celebration. Its perfectly normal for suicides and depression to spike at this time of year. That's right, they increase sharply along with petty crime, mental breakdowns and stress in general. If thats not madness then what is? Its not that unusual though because it seems most of modern human activities border on madness.

Yes it most definitely is! I was on the road traveling with my friends headed towards the mall and all of us already bought our X-mas gifts but we had to redeem a gift card otherwise it would expire! There were so many people on the road all headed to the one mall in our area and cars were honking each other like crazy! It literally took us 5 hours to get to the mall which was normally 30 minutes away!
There were so many last-minute shoppers!
It's the preparations and build up to the holiday which is the problem and chaos not the actual day itself.
