Let's ignore the regular holidays!! Have Christmas when you want to... give presents to whomever, whenever you like. Same with Valentines day.. Next time you give your significant other flowers... say... "you're my funny Valentine.. on our own Valentine day!!!

Who are They? (Sorry, I had to ask that.) But, yes, holidays are pushed on you. Just like everything else in what I expect is your materialistic country, America. If you watch television, you are bombarded with the real religion of the US, consumerism, from almost the time you are born. You see the advertising showing happy people using products and can't help but get the idea, subconsciously at least, that having things makes you happy. You have to have the hygiene products to be liked by others. You are told what music is good, and it is packaged in such a way that every new song looks new. And new is good in America. Not only products, but you are told how wonderful America is from a very early age. That education is so powerful that many of you (I am using you because you asked the question using the word us), in fact most of you, do not learn any foreign language nor ever go overseas. I once met an American in Japan who hated Japan for one reason, and he said it like this, "I can't live in a country where I can't have Wheaties for breakfast." In America, you are told what to like and what not to like. You are told what to buy. You are told what to think. And yet, because you've been told so many times that you are free and that you have choices, you think that you actually have choices and that you are individuals.

Yes, holidays are pushed on you just like almost everything else is.

I don't think they push so much as we need to start looking at shopping and eating out as necessary, and not as entertainment.
