Saruman is the eye. Are you asking about the right wizard? The first white wizard was trapped in the tower when the Ents attacked. When Gandalf came to talk to him and heal him, he refused, and he ended up falling off that huge tower. Hope that helped, but he died. That's how Pippin got the glass ball.

The film kind of leaves you hanging on that one. In the book(s) between the "Journey Home" and "The Grey Havens" there is a chapter called "The scouring of the Shire". There you find that Saruman and wormtongue have gone to Hobbiton, gathered a band of thugs and have taken over, turning the Shire into a horrid place. The war has taught Frodo and his friends well and they kick some butt, wormtongue kills Saruman and the hobbits proceded to the Grey Havens to say good bye to the elves, Bilbo and Frodo...

After Frodo threw the Ring into Mount Doom and Sauron was destroyed, Saruman went into self-exile out of shame, along with some orcs. He and the orcs are seen, in the book and the extended edition DVD of the Return Of The King, trudging down a path when they run into the Fellowship (Frodo, Sam, Gandalf, etc.) whereupon Gandalf implores Saruman to make peace and rejoin the civilization of Middle Earth, but Saruman brushes them off and keeps going down his separate path; it is unclear (even in the book) where exactly he lives out his last days.

He replaced into tempted with the help of possibilites of an alliance with Sauron, to natch the ring for himself and attain endless power... Saruman peered into the Palantir (Sauron's personal making and equipment) which filtered what the destiny would carry yet basically in accordance to how Sauron said in fantastic condition) Saruman dreamed very best power, and earned realism; death

Well, in the books, he took over the Shire to get revenge on the Hobbits for foiling his plans. When the Hobbits returning from Gondor encounter him, he's all filthy and wretched and Wormtongue is pretty much his b****. Wormtongue ends up killing him after one insult and kick too many and the Shire is a happy place again. In the films, we're led to believe that he was stripped of his sorcery and condemned to spend his life in his tower, guarded by the Ents.

The extended DVD of Return of the King has a scene with Sauruman that was not included in the theatrical version - SPOILER - he falls from the tower and then dies.
The true ending from the book that other answerers gave wasn't filmed like a lot of the incidental stories of LOTR

I read the book a long time ago. I think he was either killed by the Ents (big walking tree guys) or he died when Sauron (big fiery eye) died.
