It can go away on its own sometimes(drink lots of water and cranberry juice and avoid baths).

Or it can travel up the urinary system into the kidneys causing extreme flank pain, high fever, and even permanent kidney damage. She's smart to get on antibiotics.

UTIs can get really bad if the infection moves up to the kidney. However, that doesn't always happen. I used to get UTIs all the time and after a week or so they would clear up on their own (I thought they were yeast infections...long story). That was never a happy week, though, and if I ever get one again (I have medication to prevent them now) I'm going straight to my doctor or the ER to get the meds to clear them up!

She will get very sick and could lead to a kidney infection that will land her in the hospital. I have had five UTI's and like LEvaquin 250 mg or 500mg to treat them.. Make sure she drinks tons of water from now on. cause once you have one its more likely to get another one.

if you do not treat UTI
then it can get worse , cause more pain when going to the toilet and also can cause inflamation of the kidneys and also kidney stones, causing great pain.
