She won't get to see her doctor for another week. What causes this? is it serious? Should she goes to the emergency? Could it be what she eat?

There could be several reasons. Her hormones could be unbalanced; usually too much estrogen and not enough progesterone. Or, she could have fibroids. Unless it is very heavy and she isn't feeling well, she can wait another week. The doctor will evaluate her and either put her on meds, or do a D & C. The latter is no big deal.

This could be caused by a hormonal imbalance or any other factors. It has nothing to do with what she eats.

I had that same problem back in 1992. In my case it is a hormonal imbalance (PCOS). I never stopped bleeding after one of my periods and I continued bleeding every day for a year (I thought it would stop).
I ended up going to see the Gyn and she put me on the Pill in 1993. The pill stopped the bleeding and now regulates my cycle. I am still on the pill.

Make sure your wife sees her Gyn. He/she can help diagnose her problem and remedy the situation.

I had this problem about 4 years ago. (I am currently using my husbands yahoo account). I was bleeding heavily for about a month. It ended up being a small fibroid. They gave me an injection to get the bleeding to stop. The next doctors visit I had the fibroid was gone. It could be something more serious though, so it is good that she has a doctor's visit.

No she probably doesn't need to go to the emergency room. I would say she needs to take an iron supplement to make sure she doesn't get anemic. Has she had a change in birth control methods lately? I remember having a period for two weeks when changing birth control. She definitely should go see her gynecologist early next week.

I recently like last onth had my period for 9 days. i know thats not that extreme but i was clotting alot and they were big. i was scared and i went to the doctor and they did blood tests and an internal ultrasound and everything was fine. their conclusion... i had a hormonal imbalance. it also could be her age. if she is like late 30's 40's it could be the beginning of menopause.

My sister had this problem. She would go months without her period and then have it for a month or more. It would be a light bleed not heavy. One time she had a bad pain in her side which we later found out it was a cyst she had that burst.

Yes, she should go to the emergency room. Differential diagnosis for excessive menstrual bleeding: Hormonal imbalance, Cancer, Ruptured Ovarian Cyst, Spontaneous Abortion, among others. I doubt if it was something she ate. Best case scenerio, hormonal problem. Worst case, she bleeds out and dies. She needs to see a physician, NOW!

There are all kinds of reasons.......... could be stress......... could be an ailment called "Polycystic ovarian syndrome" (or "PCOS" for short), which 2 of my very best female friends have (well, one's almost recovered, the other still has major problems with it).. could be something else.
