Before I was pregnant I would take benefiber to help me stay regular. Now that i'm pregnant (5 weeks) is it still ok to take that? I haven't been taking it since I've been pregnant and sometimes I feel backed up. Any suggestions? Or does anyone know if it is ok?

Fiber treatments like Benefiber are completely okay to take while pregnant. I recently called the clinic to find out about it as I've been miserable, they said Benefiber, Metimucil, and such are fine to take, as well as trying to eat more things that are high in fiber.

Benefiber is safe to take during pregnancy, but most mothers to be seem to prefer taking magnesium. About 500-800 mg, it softens the stools to avoid hemorroids helps bring water into the bowl to avoid constipation and it helps relieve the tight muscles and tension that build up from stress and carrying the baby. You can even do a combination of the two.

Hi and first of all let me congratulate you on your pregnancy. I stopped taking it (Benefiber) too as soon as I found out I was pregnant but I recently asked my ob/gyn at my last appointment if it's ok to take it and she said it is. I'm 7 months along, but you really should ask your ob/gyn doctor about it to make sure it's ok for YOU to take. In the meantime, I was drinking prune juice (uggghh very nasty stuff) to help me go. You might wanna try that till u can see your doc.
