They just ruin it for those of us who actually buy something decent and thoughtful!

I know exactly what you mean! Every year I always bring something nice to a gift exchange and always get something that has no use what so ever. Granted the point of Christmas isn't about getting fancy presents and what not...but it's just the principle of the thing. As with everything you do, one should put their best into it. That's what I say.

Crappy is in the eye of the beholder, just like beauty. Maybe whoever got your 'beautiful and thoughtful' present thought that it was a crappy gift. I agree with those who have said that christmas isn't about presents - it's the thought that counts. People have different tastes and so just because you like or don't like something doesn't mean that everybody else will. The person who gave you that ornament may have loved it and thought that whoever they were giving it to would too. If you don't like the gift exchange and all the problems it's causing, don't spend so much effort if it's just going to get you upset.

Because the people who give crappy presents are the ones who enjoy the gift exchanges the most! Just like in school band, the kids who are the worst at playing their instrument are the ones who play the loudest and think there the best!

I am one the crappy present buyers, I think. I don't mean to be, I just get something within the dollar limit set that I would like but wouldn't buy for myself. Example, this year for our family exchange I got a 3 cd Celtic Hymns and a snowman decoration thing for an unknown female.

Because they don't know they are giving crappy presents, or they can't afford anything nice, or they have bad taste. Remember, it is the thought that counts, and Christmas isn't about gift-giving either. I don't think someone could be that greedy or cheap to bring bad gifts to get decent and thoughtful ones.

It's always been my opinion that people give what's in their closet that people gave them the last year that they are re gifting...let's be honest..that's what a lot of people do..and I have a strange sense of like..As an adult..I love tweety bird items..others my age..think I am a baby and would hate them so what I would think is a good gift others would not like. Everyone has different likes and it's almost impossible to buy a gift without knowing who's going to get it and what they like

I usually do a gag gift (Ex: dog treats). You know what? Usually I expect to come home with a crappy gift. Gift exchanges aren't really thoughtful in my opinion,so I am perfectly content going home with a roll of toilet paper.

They don't want to give nice presents to people who complain like you. Christmas isnt about getting big, expensive gifts. Haven't you ever heard of "giving is better than receiving?" Its sweet and nice that you thought about the gift youre giving but not everyone is like that.

Uhm... How sweet of you.
I'm sure they don't intend to give crappy presents. Some people just don't know what to get others. You should take it as a thoughtful gesture that they participated at all, and keep your comments to yourself.

So that they get something nice from someone else in return for giving a crappy gift...
