My 8 yr old just brought this up to me the other day...
She asked why does Cinderella stay and take their abuse? And I didn't have a good answer for her. She said if she is old enough to marry the prince then she should be old enough to walk out and not listen to her step-mother and step-sisters orders. That's what she would do.
She made me proud! And also shocked that she would even look at it that way!

a lot of people feel that it teaches girls that a man will come along and solve all their problems. that they don't have to do anything and the right man "prince charming" will magically make everything wonderful. real life of course doesn't work that way
and women who expect that are in for a disappointing life.
that is one objection to that type of story.
in the real world when you are cinderella you have to figure out by yourself how to get out of bad situations and into better ones cuz there's no fairy godmother or rich prince.

In the French version, the original, the slipper was made of fur NOT glass. In the English version, this was a mistranslation, and even though it is very wrong, most of the British and American public are unaware of this.

The sanitized version as we know it leaves out some darker aspects, such as the stepsisters slicing off pieces of their feet to fit into the slipper. The prince discovers their treachery when he sees the trail of blood.

The step mother and the sister. But what's good without the bad. So you can say everything's good and the reverse.
