You do not need a HDTV. The Tv connector cable has pins to connct to a RGB port on a normal TV (i.e. the yellow, red and white cables)

the only reason why they you need an HDTV to use the Xbox 360 is because with an HDTV is able to fully tap into the 360's graphic potential, but the truth you don't need one to use the 360. there should be cables with it to hook it up to a regular TV

For the 360 there are two different ways to hook it up to a TV; it has the ability to hook up to a hi def TV using red, blue and green plug-in's, (I believe) or the coventional way using red, yellow and white plug-ins.
So no, you do not have to have a HD TV to have an xbox 360.

You can't use those cables on a big screen tv... but u can use an xbox 360 on a regular t.v... ;)
