I just got my ACT scores back. I scored a 29 and it was my first time. I don't really know what the average is for most schools so I was wondering if anyone can tell me what kind of colleges I can get into with that. I plan on taking it again, but I would just like to know where I stand in the event that I don't score any better next time.

29 is a great score, especially for the first time. How much this score is "worth" also depends on your grades and extra cirriculars, and to where you are applying. For Top 40 schools the range is usually 29-33, the Ivies a little higher, but that's just the average. Unless you are applying to certain state schools, there is not a specific cut off score- it is the applicant as a whole that admissions officers find interesting. So if you can raise your score, great. But if time is ever an issue and you have to choose between creating an application that really sells yourself or bumping up the test score, choose the 1st. Many great schools consider amazing grades and test scores to be a given. They want to know what YOU will bring to their campus!

A big CONGRATULATIONS to you is in order.

I believe the highest score you can get is a 36. So that's pretty good.

If your high school grades are as good as your ACT score you'll probably be able to go to alot of universities, WITH scholarship at many.

It depends on your GPA, extra cirriculars, etc. Just figure out a few schools you're interested in and check out their websites. They usually list their average SAT/ACT scores and GPA for the freshman class. But, I'm assuming that you GPA is fairly good. You should be able to get into a wide range of public and private schools. Maybe not Harvard level....then again I don't know about that level schools, but you should still be able to get into a good school.

in case you have time to retake it, i could say choose for it. There are some faculties that would settle for you based on your GPA, yet others look on the ACT or SAT score on my own. maximum prestigious faculties and universities anticipate a extreme GPA besides as extreme scores on standardized assessments. it surely relies upon on the place you word. faculties tend to record their standards on the appliance part of their web site. once you're a junior in extreme college, attempt retaking it interior the spring.

you should have gotten something in the mail saying that.
and don't put so much weight on ACT scores. one of my best buds got a 21 the first time and on his retake and he still got into the best engineering school in the midwest. most schools don't put as much weight on SAT and ACT scores as students think.
