What are the symptoms of a hamster being pregnant? I have a boy and a girl teddybear hamster and im not sure if she is pregnant or not. I really need to know. And how long does it take for a hamster to have babies after it mated?

You need to separate the male and female. The male will eat any babies born--additionally hamsters become very stressed when kept together as they are solitary by nature, both as pets and in the wild. A pregnant female will begin nesting, become more aggressive if handled, gain weight, and be more immobile. It can be very dangerous for young hamsters (less than 16 weeks old) to have babies and additionally, unless you are planning on breeding, she can have many babies (up to 18, with an average of 8) and all must be housed separately once weened (about 3 weeks)--so please separate your hamsters. Hamsters gestate between 16 and 18 days.

Best of luck,
Katie

They lay around a lot.
They aren't as playful as normal.
They don't like people to touch them.
They get bigger.
They don't eat as much.
