I think a better thing to wonder about is why people shop so mindlessly at all.

Actually besides the big sale items things are more expensive on black friday as well as right before christmas. The middle is when the prices drop or buy one get one 1/2 off kicks in to attract more buyers.

I In my opinion, people keep shopping up until the last minute because, as Christmas gets closer, they get more into the spirit of giving and get excited about seeing the look on the recipient's face. Shopping a month in advance seems nuts to me. My family has always had a tradition of shopping for last-minute gifts, because it's fun!

Cause most people do not think that far ahead or are out of town for black Friday or do not want to fight those kinds of crowds (it is the busiest shopping day of the year).
I personally go for it and save my money!

Actually, many things are cheaper now than on black Friday. The sales weren't too good that day and now the stores are trying to unload their inventory. I found great bargains the beginning of December.

Most people don't receive a Christmas bonus until a few days before Christmas, therefore are having to shop at the last minute.

black friday lines are longer and you have to get up earlier. So the answer would be people are too lazy procrastinators, which explains 'last second'
