My computer is clean of any card references, so could they have gotten my card # from Amazon or Drugstore.com?

Its actually pretty easy to randomly generator a credit card number, so this kind of thing will sometimes 'just happen' without anyone actually stealing your card info.

Almost all online stores use an encrypted system when transfering your card information, so its unlikely they are the culprit.

However, if you have spyware or a virus, it is possible that it can steal credit card information that you've entered. Its probably a good idea to install an antivirus program if you dont have one.

Credit card numbers can be stolen even while checking out at your local grocery. Unless there's a full investigation, it's difficult to determine where it was stolen from.

you gotta find out where they are and contact the attourney general in that state. i was defrauded by an online company via my debit. it was a big hassle i got my 200 bucks back but i lost my checking account. if your bank likes you (if you got heaps of dough) they will be great help. but if your poor like me you are screwed
