Yes, a little bit. I did my research several years ago, before the Rose Revolution, and actually followed that with bit of interest.

Georgia seceded from USSR before the USSR disbanded.

Georgia is reputed to have a different language from all others, but not quite. It is rather similar to a language formerly spoken in the Basque region, but not the alphabet. This goes back to other research, facilitated by an Estonian philologist, but unfortunately for this question, I knew more about Armenia. However, Andreas is Estonian, and is quite proud, so I had to filter some of his materials.

Georgia was one of the first countries to adopt Christianity as it's national religion, and used a different alphabet than others, including the Cyrillic alphabet introduced to Eastern Europe by St Cyril and his brother St Methodius. King David and Queen Tamar were quite important in the history of Georgia, although not the one's from the Bible, were powerful forces in Georgia.

Being on the Black Sea, it had substantial shipping trade for at least a couple of thousands years. The Caucasus mountains provided a decent defense from invaders in the past, but unfortunately not as much in modern times.

Georgia, like many other former Soviet States, is still viewed as a client state by Moscow, and has trouble with energy supplies since the Rose Revolution kicked out Schevardnadze, Moscow's favorite son.

Abkazia and South Ossetia are breakaway provinces, and the rebels are supported by Russian, Chechen, Dagestanis and others. South Ossetia was subjected to genocide by outsiders, including Chechens. Abkazians and South Ossetians were also forced to relocate, although it is one of the positions of hte Rose Government to undo that damage. The Black Sea Coast still has quite a bit of danger from Abkhazians and others.

Georgia could make a magnificent resort capital if the political insurgencies could be handled. I suspect Georgia really is unprepared for the threat they are facing from the sympthathisers to the breakaways.

Moscow would prefer those groups direct their attentions somewhere else than northern Russia. Georgia, and many FSRs have great potential, hampered largely by the shadow of the USSR system and Moscow.

Georgia was once called eastern Iberia, because the Greeks and Romans saw such similarity to the people of Northern Spain.

I think most of we USA people know little of it, and it is a good idea to use this forum to advance knowledge of other cultures and histories. Few US Americans even remember the Rose Revolution, and it was the top story in the US a few years ago, for a couple of weeks.

basically a splash. Georgia is between the international locations in the Caucasus region. The Black Sea is that is western border, yet that border is below loads of tension from the Abkhazians. 2 civil wars occurring now. Abkhazia(sp?) and South Ossetia. LIttle action now, because of the fact the rebels are oftentimes on top of issues, and did a splash "ethnic cleansing". < I do make an apology, 250,000 or greater murders isn't a splash "ethnic cleansing".> Stalin became from Georgia, as is Schevardnadze. Moscow helps the breakaway provinces and the ethnic cleansing in South Ossetia, and propped up Schevardnadze till the Rose Revolution ousted him from capability. there became a woman very in touch in the beginning up of the Rose Revolution, Nino Burjanadze, who served as intervening time President till the elections could be held, and is now Speaker of the Parliament.(edited when I chanced on the Speaker's call). 2nd us of a in the international to undertake Christianity as that is national faith, after that is neighbor Armenia. It became called eastern Iberia in the previous, and has some pre-medieval historic ties to the different Iberian Peninsula, especially Andorra. it could have a brilliant sea coast and port if one can appropriate flow there, yet final summer season some beachgoers have been being careworn via separatists. us of a is thinking communication for an Air tension Base with a obtainable occasional Naval presence, and Moscow is surely unhappy approximately that. this is all i can think of of now.
